Maya Home is the residential building on the school campus, for children who cannot stay in their home situation. It was built for 60. Thirty beds are in use. The other thirty stand empty for lack of funding, not for lack of children.
A place at Maya Home is a bed, three meals a day from the school kitchen, and a school day that starts on the same campus — beside the library, the computer lab, the sports fields, the small medical clinic and the farm. The building already stands. The staff are already employed. The kitchen already cooks.
That is what makes filling these beds the cheapest thing the foundation can do. Nothing has to be built and no organisation has to be added. A donation covers food, bedding, school materials and the staff time one more child costs. The Dutch board is unpaid and there are no overhead costs, so the money arrives at the school and stops there.
